CULTURAL BACKGROUND:

USA/Pittsburgh

Specializing as a drug and alcohol counselor.

My style as a therapist is trauma-informed, strength based and educational. Based on information provided prior to the start of therapy and as it continues, I will use tools to assess the client's mental health, drug and alcohol history, personal medicine, coping and crisis management skills. I will develop therapeutic rapport with the client by first explaining my role as a mandated reporter and otherwise inform the client that I will only share information he/she discloses with my assigned AYUDATE supervisor. I will encourage clients to expect to benefit from therapy if he/she is open, honest and accurate when answering questions and providing information.  I will validate the courage this requires and promote emotional awareness and regulation. Active listening will be a priority.

I have worked with immigrants from Central America for several years. I speak fluent Spanish, which I have practiced on my travels to Mexico and in therapy. I love singing Spnish songs in the Latinomerican Choir of Pittsburgh and I look forward to helping you make sense of any circumstances you are going through.
